Notifying Students of Opportunities
The Counseling Office sends notice of available scholarships to all seniors via their school email account. Students are strongly encouraged to check their email daily for various reasons in addition to scholarship opportunities.
Academic Transcript NeedsAny scholarship application which requires an academic transcript can be turned in to Mrs. Youngberg after completion. We will attach the transcript and mail all applications in at once. To ensure applications are mailed on time, please return them at least two days prior to the deadline.
We cannot hand out transcripts to students. Scholarship committees almost always want an official transcript with the school seal on it. These transcripts must be mailed directly from the school and must remain in a sealed envelope until the committee reviews applications.Pine Valley Community Sponsored ScholarshipsBetween April and June, we will have many scholarships that are sponsored by the Pine Valley Community. A handful of scholarships require student applications. These scholarships only go to Pine Valley graduates and we encourage anyone eligible to apply. Notices will be distributed to students as they become available.
Other scholarships are those that require Pine Valley Teachers and Administration to nominate or vote for the winners. These scholarship winners are chosen based on many different categories and criteria, from school spirit, to most involved, to a student who has worked to the best of their ability.

Due 04/13/2024-The Soldier's Friend Scholarship
Fenton History Center’s Vets Finding Vets Program launched a scholarship in 2022 in honor of Gov. Reuben E. Fenton (NYS National Guard in late 1830's) and the many Veteran groups who met in our Fenton Mansion after the City of Jamestown purchased the home in 1919, to be used as a Soldier and Sailor Memorial.
The Soldier’s Friend Scholarship is named as such to honor Gov. Fenton as he was referred to as “The Soldier’s Friend” during his tenure as a Representative for Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties beginning in 1853. At that time, he introduced a successful bill that would grant needed relief to survivors of the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. During and after the Civil War he worked very hard to alleviate the hardships of the wounded and families of the deceased soldiers due to the slow slog of bureaucracy.
The Scholarship awards $1000 toward further education for a Chautauqua County graduate planning to serve our country as a member of the military, ROTC, or in a supportive civilian capacity. Department of Defense careers offered by each branch of the military encompass a wide range of skills and these positions are an essential part of keeping our military members safe wherever they are in the world.
We will be looking for a student who has utilized free time by working, volunteering in the community, or who has been involved in other ways to make a difference where they see the need. Applications must be received on or by Saturday, April 13, 2024. We will notify the Guidance Office on or by May 17, 2024.
